Research Focus

ICFAR includes researchers and both undergraduate and graduate students from the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science, the Ivey Business School and the Research Parks.

The Institute for Chemicals and Fuels from Alternative Resources (ICFAR) has been created to conduct fundamental and applied research and development activities in the fields of renewable energy, valorization of residues for the production of renewable fuels and chemicals, environmental protection and sustainability. ICFAR includes researchers and both undergraduate and graduate students from the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science, the Ivey Business School and the Research Parks. In addition, ICFAR is the coordinating centre of a major national research network, the Agricultural Biorefinery Innovation Network (ABIN).

As a result of considerable funding from the Ontario Government, from the Federal Government, and from the private sector, ICFAR is building state-of-the-art facilities and laboratory infrastructure, including several pilot plants and demonstration units, and the members of ICFAR are carrying out a large number of R&D projects of industrial significance.
